Top notch

Man, these Hultafors axes are beautiful. I received my carpenters axe , thanks to the Axe man family’s top notch business , they had the order packed up along with my weavers axe mask as soon as the order was placed. A gentleman hit me up over the chat and assured me it was all ready to go and was working on the shipping app. Sure enough couple days later I’ve got a big box at my door. Barely had enough time to get excited for it. Now the axe, I shopped around online looking for a compact axe, something a bit over a hatchet viewed a few sites where i saw a couple I liked but wasn’t quite it, and their prices seemed a bit steep. Then i stumbled on Axeman.. started scrolling through their inventory and had a pretty good feeling I’d find what i was looking for, Carpenters axe, 20” handle and their prices here seemed to be the best around that I was coming across, which is always nice. So once I received my order and got to hold and inspect the product, I was very pleased. Very, very pleased. And what feels great is supporting a Canadian family run business! You guys, they do it right here, if you want top quality products, top quality business, support these guys you’ll be happy you did

A Beauty!

Very nice little axe for out in the bush or camping. I haven't put it to much use yet but I really like the stairs handle and notch in the head for gripping

Great service ! Great Prices ! I own 196 axes so i know what I'm talking about

I'm a serious axe collector and avid bushcrafter. I own over 190 axes, mostly vintage but also many new. I completely concur with another reviewer who called this axe "all you will ever need for bushcraft." The design is flawless and the quality of this HB superior. Trust me, all the hype surrounding Gransfors does not make them a better axe. I own several vintage Gransfors and absolutely Love them, but I actually prefer Hults Bruk axes by more versatile design and slightly harder steel, and this one is top shelf. It came reasonably sharp with a perfect bevel but was only a polish and fine water stone away from razor sharp and holds its edge outstanding.
Cant say enough about Axeman. Outstanding service with quick responses and super fast shipping and the best prices anywhere. And in todays world how can you beat free shipping in Canada for orders over $100 ?
I will be back again soon :) - Paul in Kamloops BC

What You Should Know Before Purchasing Carpenter's Axe SY 21-0,8 RA, 800g

When choosing an axe, the blade material is a critical factor that influences its performance, durability, and suitability for specific tasks.

OXHEAD AXE SPLITTNG 5LB OX-HEAD 32" HICKORY HANDLE - Axeman.ca

Here are the common types of materials used for axe blades:

  • Hand-Forged Swedish Steel: Crafted in the historic forge at Hults Bruk, the axe head is made from premium Swedish steel.
  • Hardened Forged Steel: blade stays sharp longer than traditional axes.
  • Stainless Steel: More resistant to corrosion, but slightly less durable compared to carbon steel.

Factors to Consider When Choosing an Axe Handle Material

Selecting the right handle material for your axe depends on a balance of factors including intended use, comfort, maintenance, and personal preference.

Hultafors Premium Overstrike Guard - Axeman.ca

Here are the common types of materials used for axe handles:

1. Hickory Handles: Known for its excellent strength and shock absorption.

2. Shock-absorbing FiberComp® handle is lightweight yet stronger than steel to prevent overstrike damage.

3. Glass-Filled Nylon: Lightweight and resistant to moisture and decay, though they may not be as durable under heavy use.

4. Rubber Overmolded Handles: Feature a core material (like fiberglass or steel) covered with rubber for improved grip and vibration dampening.

Frequently Asked Questions about Axes & Hatchets?

Selecting the perfect axe depends on the tasks you plan to perform. For general, all-purpose use, a good rule of thumb is to hold the axe head in your hand with the handle pointing downward—the end of the handle should reach your armpit. Larger axes are ideal for felling trees, while smaller hatchets are great for splitting kindling and lighter duties.

We provide a comprehensive selection of axes to suit all your needs. Our inventory includes felling axes for cutting down trees, splitting axes and mauls for processing firewood, hatchets for camping and light chores, carpenter axes for woodworking projects, and specialized arborist saws. We also carry renowned brands like Gränsfors, Fiskars, Hultafors, and Ochsenkopf.

Selecting the perfect axe depends on the job at hand:

  • Felling Trees: Opt for a felling axe with a long handle and sharp blade designed to cut across the wood grain.
  • Splitting Logs: A splitting axe or maul with a heavy, wedge-shaped head is ideal for splitting wood along the grain.
  • Camping and Kindling: A hatchet or small hand axe is perfect for light chopping and easy to carry.
  • Carpentry and Woodworking: Choose a carpenter's axe for precision and control in detailed work.
