Splitting axe made from blasted and clear-lacquered ironwork. The heavier axe is best suited to stronger wood, while the lighter axe is best suited to basic splitting of ‘fireplace wood’. The shaft is curved and made from hickory.

  • The axe is hand-forged and made from Swedish axe steel using traditional methods in use since 1697.
  • The steel is stuck several times, increasing its density and thereby the durability of the axe.
  • Has a clear tempered zone within which the axe can be sharpened whilst not detracting from the strength of the edge.
  • The shaft is made from hickory and treated with linseed oil.

Splitting Hatchet

I was very impressed with the speed of delivery and the edge on the axe when it arrived. I am using the axe to split dry fir into smaller pieces to use in starting our wood furnace each morning. As I am recovering from a fractured collarbone, I cannot afford to swing very hard and this axe is pretty much effortless for what I am doing.

A one handed wonder

This is a great splitting hatchet and I use it easily one handed to split half round logs. The handle is great and ergonomic. I have used for about a month every night and the head is still nice and sharp. Its way better than my old axe I was using before.

Hultafors Splitting Hatchet? Great value and quality

Recently purchased a splitting hatchet as I had a small camp hatchet that was not right for the job. Each year I burn firewood, but sometimes logs that need to be further split enter my shop. Thanks to the Hult splitting hatchet I won’t likely get injured knuckles and have the advantage of a head designed to split. Highly recommended
