shaft, allowing you to hold a hand directly above the edge while
cutting. The shaft is curved and made from hickory.

Sharp enough for carpentry - right of the box. For shaving purposes one would have to sharpen it further or go with the razor:)

I gave the edge some attention just to polish it up a bit and a final few passes on a strop.... hair shaving sharpness.
