Japanese Waterstone 250mm

TO-SJ-250

This Tormek Japanese Waterstone is 4000 grit and delivers a mirror finish with hardly any visible marks.

Since it is made to create the finest surface, it has a limited steel removal capacity and cannot be used for shaping a tool. The SJ-250 is for the T-8 model. The Tormek Japanese Waterstone excels at sharpening hand tools like carving tools, knives, scissors, plane irons and wood chisels where a minimum of steel removal is needed and a superior surface finish is demanded. Its unique composition gives the stone an extremely long life. Since the surface left by the Japanese Waterstone is so fine, we do not recommend honing afterwards on the leather honing wheel. You should clean the stone surface of steel particles every minute or so with the fine side of the Stone Grader SP-650. Do not use the coarse side of the Stone Grader on the Japanese Waterstone.

Very good finishing stones. Won’t miss to dress a very cheap edge. Be careful, it’s quite soft so a bad move with the knife will dent it. You will need to grind it down with the trueing stone to remove the dent.

Must have stone!

Really does get knives, etc. razor sharp. The polished bevels are sweet! Mirror finish is so nice. Incredibly soft, chipped mine early on in the sharpening process by miscalculating my angle on a small kitchen knife. Rookie mistake! I used the truing tool very carefully take off small amounts of the stone and it came out super smooth again. The truing tool does cause chipping on the corner of the stone as it's so soft. I simply ran the grading stone over it and rounded off my corners a bit. Buttery smooth again! I prefer to have slightly rounded corners on my wheels as they are quite aggressive at the edges. I panicked at first as it's a very pricey stone, but stay calm, they're totally fixable if you get a little chip or gouge. Wouldn't go without this stone!!! 4 stars for price and overall stone maintenance required. Still love it and would never go without it.
