The Silky Outback Edition hand saws feature a handle made of arbor composite which provides excellent grip and control for wet, cold and game-processing conditions. Received the Silky Bigboy 2000 Outback Edition folding saw just in time to buck some recently fallen deadfall (mostly young red alder & western cedar) from local trails. I've been using Silky folding saws for years & have been very happy with them: Ounce for ounce, they are some of the most effective trail maintenance tools I have. The Bigboy 2000's 360 mm blade allows me to buck logs up to 11 inches in diameter (and even bigger ones if I get creative), but folded up, it can still fit in my 20L daypack & comes in at a reasonable weight. The Outback Edition's composite handle feels similar to paper Micarta and gives off a more premium vibe than the rubber handle found on standard models. The case for the BIGBOY tends to catch at the zipper…this is a design error or a cost cutting measure and should be redesigned. The saw itself likes to rip through what’s placed in front of it..a 5 without the casei
Before I purchased this, I contacted the Axeman to ask if the black blade was a gimmick and weather the coating comes off. I was concerned that it might make it sticky. I'm going from memory here but I believe it was Jeremy that replied and gave me his own opinion of his experience as he owns the same saw. He has had no issues with the black coming off and really likes his outback edition. I sent my inquiry on a Sunday, and to be honest, I almost did not expect a reply at all, but on Sunday night I received his reply. That was all I needed and I ordered it immediately, no regrets. Great company and a great saw. Another funny thing I'll mention is as I was opening the box I was thinking to myself that I hope there's an axeman sticker, I was delighted to find a sticker inside :). It's little things like this that make me a lifelong customer. I'm sure I'll be ordering a katanaboy one day in the future
