AGDOR Felling Axe 3.5 lbs

HU-840184

The Agdor 32 Yankee is a large felling axe based on professional felling axes made popular during the 19th-century American forestry industry boom. A curved 32-inch American hickory handle drives powerful swings, while the 3.5-pound Yankee pattern axe head packs a punch.

Painted Agdor blue and expertly hand forged from premium Swedish steel, sharpened and ready to use out of the box. The cutting edge is approximately 4.25-inches in length. Note: all Hults Bruk axes are hand forged, so there may be slight variations from axe to axe.

  • The axe head is hand forged from Swedish axe steel in a forge that has been in operation since 1697.
  • The head is constructed in such a way that there is a tempered zone designed to hold a very sharp edge even after repeated sharpening.
  • Painted iconic Agdor blue, sharpened ready to use.
  • Curved American hickory handle protected with linseed oil.

Axemen 5 stars, hults bruk 3 stars.

First off I will say that axemen staff were excellent to deal with. Jeremy went above and beyond to answer my questions and send extra pictures to help me decide what axe best suited my use case. They shipped it same day and I had it in a week. Awesome. 5 stars to axemen.

Now for the axe. I will say I'm pretty disappointed with hults bruk in all honesty. The axe showed up with 2 significant dings in the blade edge and the handle had significant run out. This was no biggie for me as I swapped it to a straight handle as soon as I got it (purely a personal preference and use case thing), and I re profiled the edge much thinner so it digs in much better cross grain. The reason I find this a problem is because the box was un damaged, leading me to believe that the axe left the factory/forge that way. For a $200 axe, from a "world class brand" there should be way better quality control. I essentially paid $200 for an axe head that I had to re profile and sharpen myself. End of the world? No, but I wouldn't say I'm thrilled with it. I shouldn't have to spend 45 minutes with a file working out blade damage and re profiling to an edge that should have been on there in the first place (it is a chopping axe, after all).

So in summary, axemen.ca, 5 stars all day long. I would and will deal with them again. Deal with confidence.

Hults bruk, eh, quality control is not what it should be at the price point. They still use high quality components, but the run out on the handle and the 2 sizable dings on either side of the cutting edge in my mind deserves 2 stars lost for a $200 axe.

You smash 5 stars for axemen and 3 stars for hults bruk together and you get 4 stars.

Necessary axe for the quiver. Just buy one and worry about it later.

Superb quality. The handle finish is really really good. I spent six hours today felling and hewing timbers and not a hint of blistering on my hands. A normal new axe handle would take days and days of effort to get this kind of finish. I'm thrilled, to say the least. With a proper bevel on the edge this axe practically does all the work for you. Even when getting tired, the weight of the head and leverage of the handle still provide impressive striking force. The head steel is a great combination of ease of sharpening yet holds a great edge!

My first review was only four stars because i was pouting.

Oh, and very fast shipping! (Despite Canada Post doing its best to slow things down)

Good

Axe head is extremely well made. The edge is sharp! Its not the angle I prefer, but the fact its so sharp out of the box is great. The handle is smooth and finished exactly how I would want. Minus one star for the lack of a proper fawns foot at the base of the axe handle. Otherwise its great. Don't forget to order a sheath! There isnt a check box for a sheath and the right up lead me to believe it came with one. Like the other axes it doesn't . Oops!

Thanks axeman.
